U of G Researcher Calls for National Agricultural Extension Strategy

In a recent discussion with agricultural journalist Owen Roberts, Prof. Ataharul Chowdhury emphasized that while extension activities are active across the country, they remain fragmented and unevenly accessible, limiting their overall impact. He pointed to growing challenges such as sustainability, evolving markets, artificial intelligence, misinformation, and the lack of training for future extension professionals as reasons why stronger coordination is needed. Chowdhury also noted recent efforts to advance this conversation, including an international conference hosted at the University of Guelph and the launch of a new journal aimed at strengthening collaboration, visibility, and knowledge-sharing within Canada’s extension and advisory systems.
